Ruthie's osteotomy

Hi All,
We are home from St. Louis where Ruth had a humeral osteotomy. The bone is cut and rotated then secured with a plate and 5 screws. You should see the x-ray ...

We won't really see the change until she begins PT in about 2 weeks.

The pain is pretty bad and the meds are making her feel sick. The double whammy - arm and tummy pain. Ruth is feeling a little panic about missing so much chemistry and calculus (I would be thrilled!)

Thanks for your good thoughts and wishes. I feel such solidarity with all our BP children - they are so brave.

Nancy

Nancy, I'm so glad to hear Ruthie had her surgery, but sorry she is having such a rough go now! Also was so sad to hear about her not making cheerleader this season - I am the grandma who works with a nurse that brought me an article about Ruthie when she made cheerleader when she was a sophomore! Our family saved that article for my granddaughter for one day when she is older - she is only four now.

Give her our best wishes - Camille Bearly/Overland Park, KS

poor Ruthie! Not everyone tolerates the "big" ones well (tylenol w/codeine, for instance). Try to get a different prescription for pain meds. There are lots to choose from, and she shouldn't have to put up with nausea on top of everything else!

Poor Ruthie, I am sorry she is in so much pain and worried about school.
That is making things worse for her.
She is one brave girl...
I hope she heals quickly and see some good results from her surgery.

Nancy,

Add my best wishes for Ruthy's recovery to everyone else's.

Sorry that the meds are making her feel sick. Kate has already given you great advice about asking the doctor for different meds, so there's nothing more for me to say.

Hi Nancy,

How is Ruthie doing? The pain any better? Is she still getting sick from the meds? Please keep up updated on her progress. This surgery may be in my son's future.

Take care.
