Ok everyone. Forgetful Mom moment here today being that this was the first really nice day in Upstate NY. Last week we had over a foot of snow AGAIN and today it was SUNNY and in the 70's. Of course, I forgot the sunblock being that it was the first really nice day of the season and Amber was out playing in a short sleeve shirt all day catching tadpoles by the pond with her brother, Casey. Well, she's like me and doesn't appear to be sunburned until hours later when all of a sudden she is burnt to a crisp! Boy am I feeling like a you know what and so sorry for her right about now. So, just a reminder for all you BPI parents...get the sunblock out for your little ones. I'm getting mine out tomorrow for Amber because her right arm sure is pink today!

What kind of Sunscreen do you all use?? need to find something new as our Angel seems to be having problems with the No AD Baby sunscreen. she was doing fine but this year is is caseing a rash... Thanks for the reminder

I like the Coppertone Kids, in the spray can, it's SPF 50 and the can is green. It sprays on clear, is quick and has been very effective. Katie's injured arm burns really easily, but I've found that this brand works.

We use sunscreen made for kids that has titanium dioxide instead of the "normal" chemicals. Maia had reactions to the other stuff and this was the only kind to work. They have many now with titanium dioxide in it - just do a google search. I include children, sensitive and titanium dioxide when I search. We buy this one kind from Whole Foods but I can't remember the name... I don't save the tubes from year to year - heard that it's not good to do that so at the end of each season, whatever don't use I throw out and buy fresh the next season.

The spray ones didn't work well for Maia - she got her worst burns with the spray. Each kid's skin is different - it could be the chemical makeup of the child, how much they sweat, etc. We have to cream her up about 6 times a day at camp - we go through 2 tubes a week and she wears sunblock clothing as well. The sun is brutal for the affected side.

Alba Botanica has about 20 different kinds of sunscreen - I use it too especially for my left arm that hangs out the car window all summer

Here's a side note to everyone I found one of the bathing suits at carters that kinda reminds me of the suits that surfers wear with the boyshort bottoms and the full top. I also noticed that walmart had the bathing suits that are the sunblock material.

The burning on the affected side is one those ancillary issues that come with this injury. I have yet to meet a doctor who has the "answer" to that question.

Put it in a pile with: late speech, ear infections, sensory issues, hating hair brushing...

My guess is that it has to do with Horner's and sweat glands, but I'm not a doctor.

We have been lucky with Juliana, that she isn't sensitive to the sunblock, so we can put anything on her. She even tans now on that side! We put at least 50spf and put zinc oxide on the scars.

I use to think I was more sunburned on my right arm because I could not feel it.
Now I realize it was not my fault for being careless.

Claudia you forgot after hair brushing, tags, nylon threads, tight clothing... ops I mean clothing that touches us in the wrong way... LOL...

Because I have Horner's my right ear and side of my face is always cold. One doctor told me it has nothing to do with Horner's.
