Ella goes in this Friday for her tonsils and adenoids to be removed. Right now she is suffering from a form of sleep apnea (her breathing during sleep is terrible!!!!), she is always getting sinus infections, she has dark circles under her eyes and doesn't sleep well at all, she can easily fall asleep during the day at anytime b/c of a restless sleep at night, and she is so cranky! So the DR thinks the surgery will help her 100% and solve these problems!! I can't wait to hear my baby breathe through her nose for once and not snore at night! I can't wait for her to sleep comfortably! Watching her sleep makes me feel like I can't breathe....it is that bad! Please say a prayer for a safe surgery and recovery. Mommy is nervous of course. I know she is a tough cookie b/c she did well after her BPI surgery, but I am still a nervous wreck! I don't like the idea of putting her under. That is what scares me so much!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

We did this for my oldest, Colleen, when she was 4 years old. Before, she was always so sick and nothing else seemed to work. She has not been sick once since then. Good luck to you and Ella. Lucky for her she gets lots of ice cream! Oh, beware of the possibility of a reverse reaction to the pain meds after! The doctor gave Colleen liquid loritab, "oh this will help her rest." WRONG! That girl was jumping off of the back of the sofa like superman!!!! lol!
Good luck again!

Good luck! And as nice as icream is... it's off limits at first. Dairy is not allowed after this surgery, popsicles are ok though! Give lots of those and she'll be happier.
I will be thinking of her and your family.

Krista,
My son had his removed at 5 years old. He did so well he was back in daycare after 3 days....he was driving me CRAZY !! As far as the popsicle thing, my son couldn't eat anything frozen or even refridgerated for about 6 months, don't ask me why.....he would just scream, but he ate pork chops and french fries 6 hours after surgery,(NO they weren't made for him) It is mom's right to worry, but I Am sure she will feel so much better when they are out, my son did and that was in the "OLD"days, he is almost 20 !!! LOL GAYLE

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Krista,
My oldest daughter had her adenoids removed when she was 7 because of the breathing problems. What a difference it made! Even her voice sounded clearer because she did not sound stuffy anymore. I am sure she will do fine. I will be thinking of you.
