I'm not quite sure what it is? Does anyone else? I have a friend who's 2 year old son will be having surgery he also suffers from a OBPI, but I am not sure which extremity. She is looking for some advice as far as trying to make him comfortable and such, but I am not familiar with this type of cast and was hoping that someone here was. Any info would be great! Thanks!

This is probably a spica cast, which can be either in the 'statue of liberty' position (if tendon transfers were done) or in the 'airplane' position (in the case of anterior capsule release).

Our son had the airplane type, and really didn't have any discomfort with it. He was 13.5 months when he had his surgery, and was in the cast for 3 weeks then a brace for another 3 (or was it 4??) weeks at night. He slept on his tummy, believe it or not, even though his chest was 4" off the bed because of the cast. But as far as he was concerned, he was sleeping on his tummy because the cast wraps around the torso. He fit in his regular Britax roundabout car seat and normal stroller - just a little crooked in the seat to accomodate his cast.
