TT clavicle pins removed

Post by TINAMARIE »

Hello

I have been posting here for a while, my son had the TT surgery performed by Dr. Nath in TX August 2007. We are thrilled with the outcome. Although Mark attends physical therapy a few times a week he is smiling from ear to ear. We saw Dr. Nath a few weeks agao and he wants to remove the pins in Marks clavicle bone because they are so close to the surface and may poke through..The surgery.is a simple operation we will only be in TX for 24 hours...Has anyone else ad to have the pins removed after post TT surgery?.....also please keep us in your prayers

Have you heard of anyone needing the pins removed? If so is it very sore afterwards?

My son had his TT surgery Jan 2006. His pins are also very noticable (and have been since his splint came off full time). Dr. Nath has mentioned having someone take them out if they become tender or start to poke through (eek) So far, they seem to be OK.....

Many hugs to all your little ones (and you, too!) It's so hard when they are all sick...

Hi Kathy/ Everyone,

Thanks for responding. I'm not sure why the pins are used but I'll find out and let you know. We will be in Texas on the 1/30/07. Marks pin looks like a This is gross but ( a pimple ready to pop). Nothing major but we don't want that to happen. Not all kids have them removed and again I'll find out if all kids have them. Mark is 12 years old and this was his only surgery. Mark was a (4) he had no supination, elbow at ear level when trying to eat, no external rotation, flared scapula and the elbow was always flared out even when he wasn't using it. Mark has lived with it for 12years. I wish Dr. Nath was performing this surgery back then, However I am so thankful that we have found him and what he has done for Mark. The surgery was Aug 31 of last year and he finished wearing his splint October 12, 2006. He continues to wear it at night for 1 year and has therapy 2 hours a day 2x a week. He has made incredible progress and i know he will keep improving. I have some pictures If you want to see them. The Pics are of Mark right after surgery and of the present which were taken last week. Mark will also be in Dr. Naths book due to be released in a few weeks.
God Bless
