Where to stay in Philly?

My son and I will be coming to see Dr. Kozin mid-January.
We have never been to Philadelphia before. I am wondering what kind of accomodations are available near Shriner's. I'm also wondering if we should rent a car or if parking is a problem. Any suggestions would be apprectiated. Thank-You!

I know there are other threads on here about this topic. This is where we usually stay. It's only a few minutes away from Shriner's. Very easy to navigate to and from. There's an indoor pool, restaurant on site, a TGIFriday's and Denny's restaurant next to the parking lot, along with an Olive Garden that I just found about 1 mile down the road (a left out of the parking lot, then another left onto the main road). You mention that you need the Shriner's rate, and you can get a discount. We've always had a great experience whenever we've gone. We've always driven our own vehicle (we live about 5 hours away), and we find it convenient to drive around and explore. We find outlet shopping at Franklin Mills Mall and have seen some of the historic sites as well. You can use public transportation, or contact Shriner's to ask about transportation assistance.
Good luck with your appointment.

If you call Linda Filipone, she can send you a list of hotels. From that list, we have used both the Holiday Inn City Line that Tanya talked about and the Conwell Inn. The Conwell Inn is the closest hotel to the hospital. However, you must pay for parking and there is no pool. Holiday Inn is a little further, but still not bad at all. I would say, if you don't care about having a pool and you are not renting a car, then stay at Conwell. Otherwise, go with Holiday Inn. They were both about the same price-wise.
It's basicallly personal preference whether you want to rent a car or use taxis. We have always rented a car because thats what we are most comfortable with. I do know many people who use the taxis, though. Parking is not a problem at Shriners. They have a secure parking structure attached to the hospital. I mention the "secure" part because Shriners is not in a great part of town.
Best of luck with your appointment!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn City Line twice and had great experiences both times.

Thank-You! I felt a little silly after posting I saw the search feature. However, the personal response is appreciated!

We have stayed at the Cromwell Inn and also the Holiday Inn City Line. I liked them both. I liked the Holiday Inn more when I was by myself.
We have also stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden and it was wonderful. They have a shuttle everyday to Shriners.
We have driven and also taken taxi's around, I have always found that everyone was very nice and helpful.
Good Luck and have a safe trip!

I'm not sure about the hotels, since I live in Philly, I've never stayed at a hotel here in Philly. But I will tell you, public transportation in that area can be a bit crowded and not on the clean/comfortable side (best way to explain it without sounding offensive). Either rent a car or you can get a taxi from the hotel to shriners and back...it's hard to flag a taxi, so try Academy taxi 215-333-3333.
