I AM NEW HERE!

Post by Shlomo »

Hi,

My baby is five months old, he was born with Brachial Plexus on the left arm, at the first week of age there were no movement at all in the Shoulder/arm/fingers after a week we saw slight improvements and it is getting better and better like when he leis on his back he could bring his hand to his mouth, but when he is on a seating position he will only pick up his hand above the stomach.

Also the wrist is always turned in.

Also his fingers would never bring out the fingers.

We are doing intensive therapy with him several times a day twice a week a FT is coming down to our house.

We went To Dr. Peter Waters @ Boston Children’s Hospital he did recommended surgery in Four weeks.

So to which doctor should we go for a second opinion?

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Welcome to the message boards.

Where in NY are you from? I live in UpState NY. The medical resource directory has numerous doctors that is a great place to start. There are varying opinions from different parents that you will get. Each doctor has different philosophies on treatment of BPI, as well as how aggressive they are with treatment. Which doctor you should use as a second opinion depends on what you as a parent are looking for.

Dr. Waters is a wonderful doctor and treats children with respect. We used him as a second opinion prior to our daughter's surgery. Our daughter's surgery was with Dr. Scott Kozin at Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia. Contact information is 1-800-281-4050. His coordinator is Linda Filipone. Dr. Kozin is a phenomenal doctor and surgeon, and has treated our daughter and family with the utmost respect. Dr. Kozin and Dr. Waters are familiar with one another.

Good luck.

We used Dr. Rick Abbott in New York. I have lost track of him since our daughters therap 5 years ago but he was great.
