We saw the PT today in houston and they decided on the pillow splint after the mod Quad on Thurs it was hard for them to straighten his elbow or get his arm up all the way but they said this was a much more comfortable splint has anyone had this type of splint Mare

I didn't have a pillow splint or the Statue of liberty. My splint went straight out from my side. I went back every couple of weeks and it was adjusted to get more supination. DH and I slept in separate beds for 6 weeks, cause I took up a whole double bed.
I think a pillow splint would have been a whole lot easier to live with.

are you able to raise your arm over your head even though it wasn't splinted that way? Did you have elbow contractures and did your arm staighten from the mod quad? Thank you for all the info. mare

I didnt have MQ but I have had a pillow splint before and while they are easier to live with they get annoying! I did not enjoy mine but that was after six weeks in an airplane splint. It was 6 weeks of the pillow splint full time too. So I was pretty sick of the splints and after getting adjusted to sleeping in one position for 6 weeks, then I had to find a new position. I had the splint at 10 years old. Not much fun for a ten year old.
Hope your experience is better!

No, I can not raise my arm over my head. I can now get it high enough that I can get my hair into a ponytail. I did have an elbow contracture but it wasn't very bad. I still have it though. When I can get PT my ROM is alot better than what I do at home most days.

Good luck in surgery!!! The pillow splints not that bad, I would not worry too much, but your the mom and thats you "job" If your son feels ok with the splint it will be fine.
Good luck!

Good luck with his surgery.
I'll be thinking about you both tomorrow.
I am sure he thinks it's funny he is a teenager and they usually have a good sense of humor about the things we worry about.
