I just went to the salon twice a week. The ladies there would wash my hair for only $3 and if they were not busy, they would dry it for free.

When I was in my early teens and could not really wash and rinse my long hair, my mother washed my hair in the kitchen sink.
This way my hair was clean and properly rinsed.
I am sure he would let you do this and it is easier on your back.

Thanks everyone the hair salon sounds the easiest Dr Nath said the arm would be straight up in the air so I'd be afraid of banging it on the walls when he bent over the tub or sink. Any other helpful hints I could sure use them like sleeping positons We leave tomorrow

You could try some of the dry shampoo's that people often use when in the hospital. Ask some of the nurses or staff at the hospital they may know of a good one.
This way he could use that in between shampoo's
Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Mare,
I'm not sure how old your son is but I did the kitchen sink thing also. I took my sling off so it wouldn't get wet and used the one arm for a while until I had enough strength to use both hands. Sometimes I make myself laugh when I wash my hair because I can stick my arm up to my head but I wonder is it really even doing anything. *L*

Hi Rachelcasa
Frankies 13 the problem is that when we take the splint off he can't raise it lower it yet he still has the stiches and says thats the only time it hurts so he holds it in place while I wash his body Im going to take him to the salon today and have them do it after his check up. Mare

Tooo funny! I always put my lobpi hand up there too, but I really don't think it does too much either!!!
I loved going to the salon. It was such an indulgence to me. So much was hard about my splint (like I couldn't drive) but the hair washing was wonderful! I hope your salon is as great for Frankie, as mine was for me:)

When I was 10 I had an airplane splint and if I remember right I bent back so my long hair rested in the sink, and my mom washed it for me.
I would also suggest not using hair gel or shampoo because if he does he will need to wash his hair more frequently.
I hope this recovery goes quickly!
