My Dad had a motorbike accident just over half a year ago, he has brain damage, and brachial plexus. its so hard to get used to it, even after such a long time. the tablets change him into a completely different person, plus the brain damage ontop. Anyone else here in the same situation? hes taking gabapentin, and he is gettin near enough all of the side effects. hes snappy, paranoid, sleepy, groggy, impatient, always puts thing off... its like haveing to get used 2 a stranger. i dont know how to act around him, anyone got any ideas of how i can cope with this better? its tearing me apart!

Very Upset Daughter!

We were told that this could happen with our son, who also had a brain injury. While he was on meds there was some change. But, as we took him off the meds he became more of himself. Perhaps your family could check into having different meds. or see what happens when the dose is lessened. I would check with the drs. Dustin was taking Lexapro during the day and trazadone at night, since this one was supposed to help also with sleep. It is still early in his recovery so hopefully things will improve for you. Sorry to hear of your dads accident, hope all works out.

Instead of the Gabapentin ask about pregabalin (Lyrica). It does the same for pain but with less side effects and at lower doses (usually).
Good Luck
