Arm Sling for active BPI

When I first got injured with BPI the first thing to come to mind was, how do I get back in the water? I was born a surfer, been surfing for twenty five years prior to my new lifestyle adjustment. I went on a mad search for a way to stabilize that stubborn arm of mine who refused to work, "some thing to do with unhappy nerves"
Not to make light of a serious situation, this was a heartfull quest. The closest I got was the ultimate arm sling by Joslin from California. This came with a "swathe" It was a god send. I was active, but none the less uncomfortable. I modified the ultimate quite a few times, and wore them until they were thread bare, Skateboarding, surfing, sailing, snowboarding. All said I think I went through Ten. I devised a strap that is attached to the sling "sewed on by myself, 'one handed'" that completly imolbilized the arm from movement. This seems uncomfortable and it was, but the distraction of doing something you love overcame, and the sling evolved into a highly adjustable piece of function. Now fully adjustable!

I have noticed there may be an interest in this sling, and if so i will do my best to turn anyone who wants one on to it, I will ask for patience as I am Employed as a Computer Tech, Full time College student, Father of two(six and four), and quite busy with endorphin management, i.e. Fun!
Like I said the ultimate sling is extremely comfortable, every BPI should have at least one if your going to exert yourself. Her web site is(www.armsling.com) If you are really going to step it up, please reply to me and I will do my best to accomodate the demand. Like I said the last one I made Is completely water proof, and I have gotten six months out of it. So they are tough! Thank you for your support, Rob

I think I'm past wearing a sling these days, but I know peeps who wear one sometimes, so I would be very interested in this, thanks! I have seen the sling advertised on the website in use, and it looks quite comfortable, just a bit too much "in your face" if you know what I mean; not very discreet, but if it does the job, I'm not knocking it.

I am very interested in your sling. I too, was a very keen surfer before my accident. I have tried since but have all but failed because I can't paddle properly to get onto waves.
How do you do this in a sling?

Rob...this is the first time I have seen this site, and I am so stoked to see your message about your sling. I suffered a BPI in late 92(MVA), and at the time was a Bricklayer and surfed every day. I live in Margaret River, Western Australia. Anyway...I have tried EVERYTHING to back amongst it, but to no avail.
In fact...ended up getting pounded on more than one occasion LOL.
What do you surf? I have always been stand-up, but I guess it would be easier to start with a body board, then move onto a kneeboard, then, hopefully, big stand up barrells!!!! How did you go about it?
Cheers mate...see-ya in the green room :)

My husband has just been fitted with a brachial plexus splint from a company called second skins. This has helped his posture, pain ect and most importantly his balance! Apparently they also make a wetsuit type design with a pouch to put your arm in. They also make an elbow orthosis. If anyone is intersted take here is the link
