Reply to Can't Afford Surgery

Post by Jason&Amy »

WOW! Thank you all for the great ideas! We'll try to answer some of your questions. We are in Phoenix, AZ. We do have a PI Attorney who came highly recommended. We wrote down every source of help that you responded with and we are going down the list one by one. I did email Oprah in January but have heard nothing yet so I will try her again. We are trying to organize a benefit here in Phoenix. The only resources we know of are in the motorcycle industry. (Motorcycle stunt show, bike show, and custom chroming gift certificates, t-shirts, and possible award winning show bikes). We have the location so if any of you are in the area please let us know if you would like to help or have ideas to raise money, or if you would like to come and watch the show. Email us if you are interested. We will post the date and time when it gets closer.
Thanks for all the positive feedback. We really believe that things will be taken care of one way or another. We have a lot of work to do and we will definetly keep you posted! If any of you would like to call please email us with your number and we will give you a call. Thanks Again!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

nice to see you are dealing with these issues so proactively. It seems the key to any kind of recovery is picking yourself up and doing SOMETHING. i think your fund raising ideas are good, if i lived in Arizona i'd come! there are many bikers organisations worldwide who offer help and support to others in difficulty, is there anything like this near you? i'm sure i was told the Hells Angels do quite a lot of this kind of thing.... congratulations on the new job, too, well done, your positivity dererves rewarding :0)

Jason & Amy, Sorry I wasn't able to help with your original post but I just wanted to wish you luck with raising the money and Congrats on the job. I don't really know your situation, because I haven't been on the boards for a while. My husband Jeff just had an intercostal nerve graft 3 weeks ago. Right tbpi. Total avulsions. So I do understand what you are going through. Anyway, best of luck to both of you and I'll keep you in my prayers. Debilyn

Kenneth Copeland is a pastor that is really big into motorcycles. His website is kcm.org. He has a bike rally every year.
Please e-mail me if I can help further.

Oprah is not good at answering things - I've been writing to her since about six months since Maia was born. If you get to her and she answers it will surely be a miracle. Sorry to tell you this.
