I ran across a course geared towards therapists that is in Illinois on November 2-3, 2006 that sounds very interesting. I spoke with a Rhonda at Kids In Motion who faxed me the information that I've included below.

Rehabilitative Approach to BPI

About the Speaker
Leslie McKibbsen, PT received her degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College in 1984. She received her 8-week NDT training in 1988. She has taught internationally on Threshold Electrical Stimulation, Life Plans for Disabled Children (20:4:80 courses), and Brachial Plexus Injuries. She was the vice president of the National Brachial Plexus Erb's Palsy Association and is the founder of The Space Coast Brachial Plexus Injury support group. She is currently writing a book on brachial plexus treatment approaches.

Course Description
This two-day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with a speciality in pediatrics with information and instruction regarding evaluation and treatment approaches for children with brachial plexus injuries.

Course Objectives
Participants will:
* Identify history, types, and incidence of BPI.
* Identify the various types of brachial plexus injuries.
* Explain the evaluation process for children with BPI.
* Formulate treatment plans for a variety of BPI injuries.
* Discuss surgical interventions and when they should be considered.
* Discuss preoperative treatment for an infant.
* Describe the key components of a comprehensive therapy program to treat a child with BPI, no matter the age of the child.
* Discuss and include in their practice innovative techniques including TES, NMES, and kinesiotaping methods specific for those children with BPI.
* Explain the effects of hydrotherapy and its use in treatment of BPI.
* Identify surgical vs. non-surgical children and their respective therapy program.
