What's up with locking out posts?
I was wondering why only certain posts are being locked from comments. This did not used to happen before your re-design. Why can't people talk to each other like before? Thank you.

Posts are being locked when they begin to get out of control. We are still in the process of working out the kinks with the new software. The board moderators are working hard at keeping the message boards a supportive place to be. Please bear with us as we make this transition. The post on scapular reshaping was locked and I don't think it was getting out of control. It was a lot less out of control than a few I've read! Of course I'm sure this post will be locked after I post the message so...

That post in particular just started to turn into an argument between two people, not a thread where people were talking to each other or supporting decisions, or providing constructive thought.
Of course, with this being a new feature (locking threads), entire threads won't have to be deleted.
I like the new interface.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

UBPN has posted a message board policy.
We allow guest posts for those who are in the middle of lawsuits and need support.
Some people take advantage of this gift to say things they would not say if their names were visible.
This new software makes it possible for us to continue with the work of support and respond to the community who are here for support.
Guest posts that start flame wars and are targeting other posters will be removed.
Guest poster who's goals are to have certain threads removed, will be locked and or removed.
UBPN is a support network we work hard to provide information and support for those people who are in need of help.
If people choose to argue, they are free to but not on our Message Boards.
Disagreements are healthy and can be supportive, however, the last few days a certain few guest posters have tried to create havoc on the message boards.
They seem to be upset when we choose not to allow them to operate outside our Message Board Policy.
We would like to thank those posters, who wrote to us, asking if we could do something to stop the disruption of support on the message boards, by these guest posters.

I'm not certain, but I finally found my username and password thanks to the new code. Now I don't have to post as a guest.

no external rotation against gravity, can only go to 90 degree fwd flexion, no hand-to-mouth
1 surgery at age 14 (latissimus dorsi transfer). In 2004, at age 28 I was struck with Transverse Myelitis which paralyzed me from the chest down. I recovered movement to my right leg, but need a KAFO to walk on my left leg. I became an RN in 2008. - Location: Montreal, Qc, Canada

Kath, thank you. I agree with this ability to lock posts when they get out of hand. I for one, was having a hard time lately reading posts that were getting nasty. I am all for expressing oneself, but lately it seems that it was getting out of control sometimes. I have been visiting less lately because of this.

I LIKE the fact that threads can be locked..if it is not possible to operate the boards without 'guest' postings, then this is a great way to take the heat out of a flame war that could otherwise take down a perfectly normal informative thread.
As we have seen time and time again in the past, some threads are targeted and hijacked by 'guests' who have some wierd agenda of their own and who just want cause havoc and misery.
Keep up the good work guys and gals of the BOD...!

I am all for locking post that get out of hand, etc. But it seems to me like the excitment of being able to lock them is kind of going overboard.

You're probably talking about the question on pricing. Although I am not at liberty to discuss the issue in detail, there are several reasons, including the inability of physicains to openly respond to questions on pricing in an open forum. So when innacurate information is written we are not privvy to the inaccuracies and the physician is unable to respond, thus we are the middle-man in the controversy and may hold liability. Thus we have decided to avoid that. Discussions about ACTUAL monetary amounts shouldn't be quoted on our boards. Again we will have a statement about that shortly.
