Met an Erbie

Hi,
I was on a business trip this week and when I checked in I noticed the girl behind the desk had a BPI. I asked her if she had Erb's and she had never heard of the word. She said she had a brachial plexus injury at birth and had a surgery at 6 months. She is also pregnant and concerned about how to take care of her child. She has virtually no movement in her BP arm.
I told her about UBPN and just wrote to her and sent her a link to the site. Her name is Natalie. I know you will all make her feel welcome as well as offer good advice about childcare and possibly getting some help in getting her injury evaluated.
it was great to meet her and i sure hope she checks this site out and makes some friends here.
Thanks
Pat

It is amazing how many times we have a opportunity to support others. Just think of all the years we thought we were the only ones with this injury...

Great going I hope she posts.
Traci is pregnant with her first child and Kissygoose has twins... so she will get tons of support.

Boy, I know I had a hard time, but at least I have some functionality in my arm. She really needs a lot of suggestions of ways to make it work for her. I E-mailed her separately. She lives about an hour from Cincinatti . Don't we have some folks down that way?

Wow, that's great that you let her know she can come here anytime for support. There's been time I thought someone had a BPI but I never asked. Now a days I would.

Anyway, like Kath said I'm due with my first baby this month. So feel free to tell her she can contact me if she'd like to. We'll make her feel welcome.

I hope you are feeling well, getting pleanty of rest, drinking all your water... LOL... and I am sure you just can't wait until the baby is here....

Hope you are enjoying this last month...
I will tell you a little secret...
In the delivery room they tell you they cut the cord...
That is a joke that cord just becomes invisible--- LOL---

Kath,

I'm good. Everything is going well. I'm drinking my water, I just love my ice water.

In that case I think my dog has an invisible cord too. LOL.

I'll keep in touch. Once my real daily adventure begins.

Pat, Where did she live exactly? I live north of Cincinnati. It depends on the traffic but it is sometimes an hour away. lol I live in Liberty Township/West Chester area.

My son has the LOBPI and when on vacation in Disney a couple years ago, on an escallator, I spotted a little guy, just younger than my own with what looked to be a bpi. I finally got the courage up to approach the mom, mainly because I wanted her to know about the help that is available (if she already didnt) Ended up he was having surgery at TCH just about a month later. But, it never hurts to ask, you may not know how much you are helping someone.

She works at the Holiday Inn in Wilmington. I'm not sure where she lives. I am going to E-mail her again. She would benefit so much from the boards. I really hope she gets involved
