overuse of affected arm trigger migraine?
overuse of affected arm trigger migraine?
I did some cleaning yesterday and I could feel a muscle in my shoulder and neck really tight and ended up with a migraine. I could really feel it all night and it just seemed to aggrivate the migraine so much. I'm wondering if it triggered it too. Anyone else have this?

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Overuse does trigger headaches in me, when the neck and shoulder muscles hurt as you describe. I'm tbpi and have no use of my right arm so overuse is a big issue for me. It's the muscle tension that causes it, but I don't get migraines, my headaches just tend to be on the side where it hurts, migraines are all over and you get the nausea etc too, I don't get that. I'm painting and decorating my daughter's room at the moment and every night I go to bed with a headache on the unaffected (sore!) side and it's still there when I wake up. I know it will go away when I stop hurting myself! It's the price of independence I guess. I could have got nmy husband to do the room, but I really wanted to do it for her myself. I'm sitting here right now with an aching neck and a throbbing headache.....and I have to stencil fairies on the wall today....lol

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Kissy
I have had a headache for a month and assumed it was because of all the flowers in bloom...
I am also purging all my closets and getting rid of tons of stuff because I am planning on sell my house and moving to a smaller place... hmmm never thought of overuse. I don't get migraine's two of my children do and boy are they terrible. My husband use to get them too but I guess he outgrew them... or aged out ... LOL..

Re: overuse of affected arm trigger migraine?
I am LOBPI, and have gotten migraines all the time for several years now. The doctors had no idea what caused them. I had tests for tumors and everything. Finally after tracking my every move for over a year, I realized they were from overuse. I found these great hot/cold herbal packs at the mall. One drapes over my shoulders, but the best one curves right around my neck. They work wonders for everyday aches and pains. I also see a massage therapist regularly, and I find that helps a lot for the extra deep muscle work and release. You may also want to look into your chiropractor or physical therapy for ultrasound on your shoulder and neck. It doesn't do much for me, but a little relief is better than none, and I've heard it really helps a lot for some people. Also, I know you have kids, and holding them and hugging them probably adds to it and you may not even realize it. I know that's the case with me, anyway.
So, sit back, have a chocolate, and make your husband do the cleaning!
