first surgery

Hi everyone,
I was in a motorcycle accident on my new but totally destroyed Ducati 999. The damage was an avulsion of the C6 at the nerve root and a possible cut of the C5. I currently have no use of my deltoids and scapula from the C5 damage, and both have severe atrophy. The other damage was to the bicep however, the bicep has been improving with PT. all my pain was in my thumb and forefinger. The pain was unbearable and would come about every 4 seconds, making it difficult to speak.
My first and hopefully last surgery will be very soon. My Dr says he will perform a nerve transfer for both nerves with the replacement nerve coming from my chest. I asked My Dr. if there was somewhere else he could take the nerve from that was of lesser use to me than my chest. He said there was but that my best chance of recovery would be from the nerves in my chest. He said at a minimum I should have 50% improvement.
My question to anyone here is how much improvement should I expect from my surgery?
Has anyone here had surgery to improve their shoulder and or scapula, and what was the outcome?
Thank you for your time.
Kevin
