sippy cups

Aaron is ready for drinking out of cups but the cups I found are too heavy the one with two handles on the side or too fat for his little HAND to hold (the playtex ones). Does anyone have any suggestions or preferences? would like to e-mail playtex and complain that not all children are able to use both hands. I have a small cup that would work just fine but it leaks too much when you turn it upside down.

Our OT/ PT's that we were working with at that time had catalogs of different cups that they ordered for us to try to see what worked best for Taylor. They have special catalogs that have items that are designed for special needs. We actually found a small cup that had a no leak top that worked great. Now of course I cannot remember what brand it was.

We had really good luck with a couple of cheap ones we found at walmart. They have three ridges on the side and a smiley face on the lid. They do not have a valve in them, so they will leak if held upside down or shaken, but we haven't had too much trouble with that. The best part is she can use them one handed, they are very light weight and only cost 88 cents each!

We have tired a few different one... and with time and practice Ian can use them all. The newest cup I like is called the Take and Toss... I think they are by the First Years... anyhow they are great!! They are made of a light weight plastic, have no values and are quite spill proof. Please note I said spill proof... because if you turn them upside down and shake them drops of the liquid will come out. And if they are in the diaper bag and get tipped over... and have something pressing against the sipping part things get wet. I have found this to be true of all the sippy cups I have bought so it was not a big deal to me. Plus the cups at wal-mart are about $3 for a package of 6. I love them and think they are just great!
Blessings,
Kristie

have you seen the new playtex with handles. they are heavy but do not leak at all. Jade uses them but she did not start a cup until she was a year old. Emma my 7 month old can not hold any of the sippy cups and she has both hands. i did find SUZY Q by gerber. they are only 4 oz. so they arn't that heavy.

We had to start Katie out with those little "plastic" tube like bottles from the local NICU and they make sippee nipples that fit in just like a regular bottle nipple. It took her a long time to go on up to other cups, handled and not. I too like the toss sippees but she doesn't, they seem to be a little more difficult for her to hold onto. She preferes the playtex two handles cup...I may be able to find one of those tube like things and take a pic so that you could see it if you want. Just email and let me know.

They have a catologue they will send you that has all kinds of different cups and utensils. You might find something there Aaron could use. =)

I don't know how old Aaron is but the Gerber ones that are shaped like an hourglass are the best at not leaking one bit...if he is little it may be hard for him to hold it...however, my Josh learned to hold it with his unafffected hand...I began by just filling it 1/4 way so it wouldn't be so heavy...eventually he got big enough/strong enough to handle a full cup. I tested all kinds of cups and found the Gerber hourglass ones to be the best (they are the larger of the Gerber cups). Good luck!
