Where do you stay in Houston?
We are going for surgery this summer and don't know where to stay. We want somewhere that is nice and safe, but not overly expensive. We want to be as close to the Herman hospital as we can. The places I have researched so far are the Marriot, Holiday inn and Residance Inn. Has anyone stayed at any of these, what did you think? I heard about people staying at the Crowne Plaza, but I can't find one that is close to the hospital on any of their websites.

The Crown Plaza is either open still or in the process of being shut down or already shut down. If you can't find one in the medical center then it may be gone already.
The Marriott, HOliday Inn and Residence Inn are all good, all close, all have shuttles. Residence Inn is a little farther away but they still have a shuttle.
Marriott is pretty standard and more expensive. I haven't read much complaining about the Marriott. They have an on-demand shuttle. They basically have drivers and cars waiting to take you anywhere. The Holiday Inn and Residence are cheaper and there's a cheaper "deal" at the Residence Inn for $59 and that includes breakfast and some sort of a makeshift dinner meal that someone told me about. From watching the posts here, people have said really good things and really bad things about both. I think it all depends on what day you go. If you get a room that you don't like or is messy, complain about it immediately and make them switch your room or switch hotels. I, personally like the Marriott the best. I've never had a bad room there, but I have had a bad room at the Holiday Inn and bad food for breakfast.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Jan and friends stayed in the Residence Inn during the same time period. We both had good experiences.
When we were there, the Crowne was closed.

We stay at the Residence when we go, because I always have to drag the other children too. I like the residence, they do have a nice breakfast bar in the morning and Monday through Thurdays they have a dinner bar sort of thing with pizza, hot dog and such, usually popcorn and a movie too.....it has been a while since we have had to go so things may have changed. We stayed at the Residence Inn and it was fine. It has the breakfast buffet in the a.m. and some sort of dinner/snack meal around dinnertime. Sometimes just salad, and another time they and lazagna. I believe it depends on the night. The Crowne Plaze is closed down now. We were there for triangle tilt surgery on February 23, 2006.

We will be staying at The Residence Inn April 24-29. My daughter Bailey is having the Triangle Tilt Surgery. If you go to Dr. Nath's site there is a code you can give them and it brings the cost down to $69 a night.

We stayed at the Residence Inn. I wouldn't stay there again. I felt like I was in a hospital the whole time... or some kind of elderly facility. I wish I had another suggestion... but I'll definitely find a different hotel when I go back for surgery number 2.

I booked a junior suite at the southwest hilton hotel for only 79.00 a night. Go to hilton.com and sign up for their free members card, print it, and give reservations your reward card #. Tell reservations that you would like the medical rate for Texas Medical Center, and request a suite. Many free amenities come with being a member. And you have use of the spa which i believe is next to the hotel. You also get free breakfast, and a discount in the hotel restaurant. I will be staying there April 17-25. My daughter is having the triangle tilt surgery on April 20,2006. Samantha is 11 and will be 12 years old this june. We are so excited that she's gonna finally get her arm fixed.
i will let you know about the hotel when we get back. Oh, also, as far as airline tickets, bob jack (careforce)for Continental Airlines gave me 2 round trip tickets for free and is even flying us out of our small airport, toledo, ohio, which is usually triple the price. We just payed 15.00 each for taxes.

Re: Where do you stay in Houston?
Do you have the contact for Bob now? He helped us many years ago when we started this process (after several surgeries and trips at our own full cost) but we had heard they shut that program down. Now we are facing the task of starting the surgery route up again and finding the expense daunting to say the least. Thanks for posting this, any one else out there know of other places to go for airline help?
thanks
thanks
