Just got home from Children's Hospital!

Post by Lenni »

Greetings everyone! We just got back from our pre-op visit with Ashley's surgeon at Children's Hospital. We received very good news which was that Ashley has made some improvments in the last 10 months since he last saw her, and he decided to give her another year to try and improve some more! This was totally unexpected news for us all and we are still in shock. We had already had a splint made, a physio thereapist and OT waiting and big clothes purchased so we were ready. We are very happy that she is doing so well, but blown away too. I think it took guts for the surgeon to tell us we should wait. Ashley is overjoyed to be able to carry on without this procedure, we are all very happy for her.

The disappointing part was that he offered not other hints or news to help us out with the next year. So we will be working on our own and improvising to hopefully get some results for her.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! any year without surgery is a good year!!! What kind of improvements are you looking to gain? I'm sure we can all give you ideas for this.

Well - I hope there's going to be some kind of celebration at your house tonight!!

Hi Francine, thanks for the congrats. What we are hoping to gain is the movement, ( I can't remember what it's called! ), that brings your arm down and behind your back. This is not the only improvement we need to make but it is her weekest at this point. Ashley cannot do it at all, she scores a -4? Whatever that might mean. Anyway, I would love suggestions.

lenni...is this the movement that you would use to take arrows (for bow & arrow) out of your quiver (is that what it's called?)

or is it the movement to take your wallet out of your back pants pocket?

Francine,it is the movement of taking your wallet out of your back pocket, or pulling down your pants.

Fran

just a quick couple of questions...how is Maia's arm looking? katie was doing so well and suddenly she is in the same spot...barely moving her arm, shoulder sagging, plus she is back to the RSD symptoms (flushing, white, heat, cold..) again. just so opposite from one day to the next, hardly any movement. was just wondering how the other kids were doing.

Also, we need tricks to build up triceps and deltoids..can you get some good ideas?

thanks and have fun
