Greetings board. I’m trying to weed through all the post and find people who have had their injury 10 - 15 yrs (like me). I'm interested in hearing their success (or non) stories.
Thank you!

I've been a Tyr warior for 24 years.
Fell free to ask me anything you like. I've discussed most aspects of this injury and my life at one time or another in various threads on the site. Feel free to ask me anything you want to know.
Cheerios,
Henry

Hello to each of you. Thank you for the welcome. I have so many questions..so please bear with me
As many of you know back in the 80’s there wasnt much they could do for BP patients. The Dr. told me to wait it out and see if anything happened. Well ..I have been waiting almost 15 yrs haha. j/k. Seriously though..i just went on with life and made the best of the situation. To be honest I never even cared to find a cure because the Dr’s were so negative I just thought hey I have a paralyzed arm so be it.
I guess the questions I have are. Is there any hope with those that suffered the injury so long ago ( 5-15 yrs ). Over the past few years I have noticed im able to move my arms in ways I never knew I could. For example if I lay on my back and hold my bad arm with my good ( up in the air – like you’re lifting weights ) I can lower my bad arm and push it back up ( seems I have elbow movement ) ? My triceps and biceps flex. I have feeling all the way down to my elbow but no movement in the hand. I can rotate my elbow inward though.
I went to see a Dr a few months ago to run the ( muscle test to see the level of damage ) and he looked at me and said “ are you sure you’re nerves are not just stretched I hear movement all the way to your forearm “. He sent me to a neuro specialist and he ordered an MRI. I’m a cash patient and will be getting an MRI this month.
What has your success been w/ surgeries etc over the past 10 years. I’m interested in hearing what you have had done and how it has benefited you. I’m reading more and more about tendon and muscle transfers..but have questions about that as well.
Please share

My son had his injury in August 2004 and through my son we met a man who goes to our church that has the same kind of injury. His was 30 years ago and there was a doctor, I believe in Virginia, her name is Julie Teres (the spelling on the last name is not correct). She still is in practice, but I heard she is near retirement. I'm sorry you didn't hear of her back then. He has his arm back and hand back to about 80% uasage.

Aloha, you can always check with a BPI specialist and see what the options are.... you never know, things are always changing. I personally sure dont have the answers, if I did I sure as hell would share them here! Good luck and keep asking away... btw... I have only had my BPI almost 5 years...
