surgery went better than expected he started at 9am, and they closed him at 3pm, and for the ones that will understand what I am saying David didn't have to have the left nerve taken from the neck and transfered to the right side and Dr. Shin was pleased with that he is in the ICU unit and in pain but they are keeping him comfortable he will be in ICU for a few days but hey thats gok with me he is in good hands...

Hi Judy,

Thanks so much for the update! David will feel like he's been hit by a truck for a couple days, but these younger guys "bounce" pretty quickly. Tell the team hi from John's family. Have you met Angie & Chris yet?

Keep us posted, and take care,

Ellen

I will tell the team hi from you all and no I haven't met Angie and Chris yet I was hoping too but things are long when testing you know I just wish I knew where to even look for them at. David is in ICU in peds dept on the 3rd floor room 548 and its going well right now he is sitting up in a chair visiting with grandma Connie my mom and she just can't believe the looks of him his eyes are almost swollen shut all the fluid build up and we are used to all that with me and being in the hospital and having surgeries so soon it will go down... Take Care Everyone... Judy

Hi Judy. This is Angie. We are back from Mayo and I am sorry I never got to meet you. We had a problem with lost luggage that kept me on the phone in between our appointments. We rushed from one appointment to the other, some days we forgot to eat! I'm sure you remember your pre-surgery trip. The doctors are great there! Dr. Spinner found two nerves in the right side of Chris' neck that still have some "spark" to them even though the are damaged due to an avulsion. Once inside, they can test the nerves to see if some of them can be used. That will save Chris from needing to have nerves graftted from his left side also. He is going to have the muscle from his legs tranplanted into his right arm. Chris is 6 ft. 5 in. so the doctors were joking about how Long that muscle will be since it reaches from the groin to the top of the kneecap.
We still don't have Chris' luggage or the medications that were in the bag, but our doctor here is working with our insurance company to have them refilled so we don't have to pay full price. And best of all...we came back with hope. I have put this in God's hands now and I know He has taken on this incredible burden for us. Good luck and God bless! I pray that David will get the best possible results from his surgery!

Angie
