YEA! We dressed ourself! :)

Post by GAmom »

Hi everyone. Just wanted to brag my son undressed himself last night and he also dressed himself this morning. YEA!!!!! I was so proud. My older son came to see what all the fuss was this morning and when I told him he joined in. We are so proud. Is seems like we have been working on that forever. Brayden has always been that way ever since he was a baby. We would work on it forever and then just out of the blue he would do it. YEA! Sorry just needed to share!

This is great news! My 3.5 year old still will not undress/dress himself. ALthough, I did see him take his socks off all by himself the other night.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.
Location: New York

This is a big event in an obpi child's life... enjoy it.

I am sure that most parents here know that the injured arm goes into shirts, jackets etc first and comes out last.
I just thought I would remind everyone because there are so many new folks.

I have a friend who hurt her shoulder and was struggling to put on her jacket she was hurting herself.
She was really annoying me because she could not figure it out... LOL...
I had to show her how put on her Bra, coat etc.
To me it was such a simple logical easy thing to do.
We ended up giggling because she said she would never have thought to put the injured shoulder in first or to shampoo her head using one hand... LOL...
She was hurting herself trying to preform the simple life functions that OBPI manage one handed and/or via creative compensation skills... LOL..
