What is compression of plexus?

Post by admin »

I have regained alot of range after going to PT 3 years. After I was at the end of the healing,I was discharged and then continued at the Rehab place on an independent program to continue ROM/strenghth exercises.Five months on my own I maintained on my own. Then I went down hill.In 8 days I lost almost all the range we worked so hard for.I was sent to work comps doctor and he says I may have re-injured the nerve. He mentioned possibly compression on the nerve from the therapist over doing it.Believe me,therapy was the only thing thats helped me.What would this mean, what are the symptoms, etc?Since it is a work injury, this comp doctor said theres nothing ANYONE can do for me.But what I dont understand .............if I had the range of 135 degrees raising the arm, isnt there a possibily I could get to that range again. Thanks

You need to get yourself to a brachial plexus specialist who will be able (hopefully) to determine what kind of damage was done recently. If it it what he said it is, compression from overdoing the PT, then what might have happened is that something was torn, and then as it healed scar tissue formed and is compressing the nerve closing in on it more and more. But how does he know for sure that you didn't injure the nerve itself. That's the part that the brachial plexus specialist can help you determine. Please contact one asap. There's a list on UBPN on the home page in the Medical Resources. Hopefully you can find someone closeby. Happy Holidays. I hope for your recovery.

What was your injury diagnosed as in the first place? Many things can compress the brachial plexus such as your first rib being out of place to a cervical vertebrae problem. It is usually classified under Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS). Give us some more info about your injury and maybe someone will have some advise.

I agree with earlier post about getting to a BPI specialist as soon as possible to help determine what is causing this change in movement.
If it were me, I'd make sure to get an EMG done that covers any of the possible nerves that might be causing this. Good luck and best wishes.

Im waiting for my orthopedic doctor to refer me to get an EMG/see a neurologist. The problem is............Comp wont pay for me to let a neuro look at me,they will only authorize the EMG.
