TBPI after surgery therapists in Philadelphia area?
TBPI after surgery therapists in Philadelphia area?
My son had surgery on Dec 20 and his home for the holidays. He had three nerve transfers and two nerve graphs. We hope and pray for great success in the coming year. Does anyone know of good therapists for brachical plexus injuries in the Philadelphia area?

Can the doctor who did the surgery recommend and refer your son to someone who understands the injury and the surgery? Did the doctor tell you to do range of motion exercises? How old is your son?
Also, Theraplay in Horsham, Philly and West Chester works on kids with bpi. You may want to speak to Maureen Hugel or the director (I'm sorry I forgot her name) and they may be able to give you some adult leads.

My son is 21 years old. I have researched on this site and find that most only do children or under 21 years of age. His surgeon states he can go anywhere for physical therapy. He is not to move his arm for three weeks. then start therapy. I will look at the link you sent and let you know what I find. Thanks for responding.

There is Magee Rehab, Moss Rehab and Novacare. These are the 3 biggest adult PT centers in Philly. You can get their contact information by going to
local.google.com
and typing in
physical therapy, philadelphia, pa
Your surgeon should be able to provide a scrip with the very specific kind of therapy (and contraindications) for your son's care. Not many therapists know a lot of brachial plexus injuries. You are going to have to educate them and provide them with information that you can find on here and also the TBPI UK site.

Hi
I am sorry to hear about ur son,but My husband also had this injury and he had 4 nerve roots avulsion back in Feb 05, he had 2 major surgeries done on him, and now he is going to the physical therapy, and I was just like u, I didn't know any physical therapist...
But u know what...I looked in to yahoo yellow pages and then i called each one of them and asked if they are familiar with brachial plexus injuries, and most of them didn't know about these injuries, and also his surgeon should write the prescription for physical therapist, in which he will explain in detail about the excercises that needed to be done. My husband's surgeon also want his physical therapist to call him directly, when ever he make a change in his excersises, even though he write a prescription.
If u have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Shafali.
