Can't get medical records...now what?
Can't get medical records...now what?
Just found out I can't get my medical records from when I was born. So I really have no records on my arm. I'm not sure where to go from there. I'm assuming I'll have to start from scratch and just go from here. What kind of tests and so forth do I need to have done to monitor everything from here on?

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I was never able to get mine either.
I just tried to get my medical records from New York Hospital and I have a case number but can't get to the right department.
That was where I was treated for Erb's as an newborn.
I started treatment there when I was less than a month old...
I would love to see my records.

Christina,
I had this happen too. I was told after 30 years the hospital is no longer required by law to keep them. However, I called where I was treated as a child. My pediatrician had records that had been transferred to them. So if you can remember where you were treated as an infant? child? maybe you can get some answers. Keep trying! It is very frustrating I know but don't give up!! As far as test goes I really couldn't say. They have done several tests on me and GP is going to send me to a pain management clinic for bio-feedback. Everybodies injury varies. Wishing you the best in finding answers. Just keep on pushing until you have them!!

Re: Can't get medical records...now what?
M&M...the reason I can't get them is that the hospital only has records back to 1885. Anything before that was destroyed since they are only required by law to keep them for so long.
Unfortunately I have no idea who my pediatrition or any other drs were. My mother would know but since she passed away when I was 17 I can't ask her. My father doesn't remember and says the thinks my ped is dead anyway. We also moved around a lot so I had several different drs in several different cities. It's just so frustrating.
