Mayo Clinic new procedure

Post by lcnierman »

My husband recently underwent muscle and nerve transfer at Mayo. They are now implementing a new procedure that only requires one suregery to regain bicep and wrist/finger movement. It was a 15 hr sx but well worth it to avoid a second muscle transfer. They only used one inner thigh muscle and both calf nerves. His C5 was still intact so they used it for shoulder muscle. They also transferred intercostals to fingers. They say he'll be able to feel with first three digits. Recovery went very well. He went back to work 1 1/2 weeks after suregery. They doctors at Mayo are great and very kind and patient.
