Just a question.

I was wondering if any of your little ones have chronic problems with constipation. No matter what I give Rain to keep her going regularly she is always stopped up. I have tried everything from prunes (didn't go over to well) to pears, pear juice, to dried apricots and nothing keeps her going. I asked her pediatrician about it and she says that their could be a link to the chronic constipation and the bpi since our ability to have a bm is controlled by our nerve system and our muscles. Maybe this is true. Just wanted to know if this has been a problem for anyone else, and if so how did you resolve it. Thanks.

DeShawn

P.S. I hope that I didn't gross anyone out with all of the poo poo talk. (smile)

Our daughter has that a similar problem, we tried apple juice, apricots, the works, and finally our doc told us to use fiber. For a while we used Metamucil (sp?) and put it in her orange juice. Then when she got older we now use Fibercon chewables. We only give her one a day and it keeps things normal. She knows it as her "orange treat". When Matthew was a few months old and I was nursing him and he was having troubles I would eat apricots or if I took 1/2 a fibercon it worked for him. Hope this helps.

My daughter has a similar problem. We just make sure she does not eat too much dairy, and she drinks allot of water. She still does not go every day but at least it is every other, without any difficulties. Good luck!

no the poop talk bothers me NOT! :)
I think thats exactly it, a corresponding nerve or something, Cindy if you read this, didnt your acupuncture guy say there was a corresponding spot to the colon in the BP area? cant re,member, maybe that was diaphragm, well ofcourse theres the disphragm nerve right there too
anyways, ditto what everyonme else says, also, I use flax seed and flax seed oil, the flax seed(ground) I get at healthy food store and put it on all of our salads, I also add flax seed oil to the saladf, coat with the oil and then the flax seed meal...
I totally agree with adding fiber and reducing dairy and drinking water, ~you can dilute juice, I dilute all our juice 50/50 with water ...its the only way I can afford the stuff abnd its healthier, less sugar too!
ok, and fishoil, thats good stuff too,
goodluck!

I just thought it was us. Glad you brought it up! We have really struggled! Kelsey has always had a problem. Her dr. keeps saying that she will out grow it. He has us put a tablespoon of mineral oil in her food, and that usually does the trick after a few days. She finally got to a regular place, and we really have to monitor her.

Oh my goodness--I thought it was just katie too..she has been like this since birth. We use the mineral oil too and if we get really desperate we have found that we can throw in a little caffeine (about an ounce) and she'll at least go a little within 30 minutes tops. Plus we use apple juice--it seems to help her better but it does spoil her appetite if she gets too much. I think we could forget the fiber in juice--she doesn't do textures that well. No slimy foods like fruit either.

I would be interested in finding out if there is a nerve located in the bpi area. Also, what about the foot massage (forget what it is called) that one can massage a certain area for a certain function or area of the body system? Does anyone have any information on this--perhaps Francine or MaryMom?

Here's to regularity and keeping up the good moods..

Mary,
Yes - Matthew was very gasy and David said that it only makes sense because the brachial plexus area and intestine lie in the same meridian.

Large Intestine Meridian

so you can see for yourselves... BUT there are other meridians in the arm, too...heart, small intestine, lung

I believe they all get affected especially when there is surgery(ies) and they get 'tied' up in scar tissue

but this is a complicated subject so I'll leave it at that

For those going to an acupuncturist, ask if they recommend "ion pellet" that you can attach to LI4 (large intestine 4) and stimulate. Works like a charm in 2-10 mins usually.

I can't believe this! Michaela always had problems too, especially as a baby. I tried all kinds of things and as a baby used alot of babylax. Then as she got older she wanted my coffee and even though i drink only decaf once a day, I would give her Mott's Natural style apple juice diluted 50/50 in a coffee cup every morning and warmed. She's like me and if she doesn't go at least once a day but ususally 2 or 3 times she's miserable. I guess the apple fiber in the natural style juice and the fact of it being warmed does the trick for her. She has it every morning before anything else, it's the first thing she wants when she wakes up.

I'm really interested in learning about how it could be connected to the bpi and accupuncture and all that stuff. I've been into holistic medicine for myself for awhile, To bad alot of insurance won't cover. Usually cheaper in the long run and better for your body. LeeAnne
