C/S on Monday and people's "opinions": vent

We have a scheduled c-section for this Monday. I hate the idea but I'm going with it and I just hope for the best.

I just need to vent though. I'm on another message board and I am so tired of people saying that every woman can birth the baby God gave them. I'm also tired of people "checking" to see that I have the right information and reminding me about how epis and positioning and pitocin, etc. can all influence labor and delivery outcomes. No kidding folks. Some days I feel like a pariah for choosing to have this c-section. I think I feel more sensitive about it then most because I dont want to do it either and in reality it could be unnecessary. I dont have a crystal ball though so I make the decisions I make with the knowledge I have.

I just feel stressed about the c/s and insulted by peoples good intentions. I feel like telling those who PM me and post to shove it and MYOB.

I needed to vent. I hope I'm making the right decision.

I believe that this is a very personal decision. I am so sorry that you have been put in the position to even have to consider an elective c/s in the first place. Please know that I wish you the easiest possible recovery and a healthy baby. Venting is okay as far as I'm concerned. Congratulations in advance.

It is the right decision for you - you know best! I hope that everything goes great for you! Nothing like a new baby in the house!:) Baby smells and watching them sleep - so snuggly and sweet. You know best what is the right choice for YOU!:) I could NOT "birth the baby" she was way too big and my second one was on the same course - would have been a 10lb + also - and I had the piece of mind - the doctor knew this time (a different one) that I could not physically fit that baby thru what I had to work with.
If it helps any - I had a scheduled c-section with my second child and it was so nice - I knew the day she'd be born, the time, and I wasn't in any pain like I was with my first - I could WALK - something I couldn't do after my first child was born - took me 5 weeks to be able to walk - - and you can't even see the scar anymore - it was easy compared to my first delivery which (of course was natural). Between the two I'd go C-section! Giving birth naturally is not all that great!! LOL Just remember that you know best what is right for YOU!:) I wish you well and congratulations on a new baby!!:)

It is YOUR decision. Just remember that. I too decided for a c-section for my 2nd. I have a beautiful healthy 20 month old so I dont regret my decision at all. In fact the c-section was a brezse compared to my 1st. I will never know if I could have delivered my 2nd (although she was 9lb 7oz, 3 weeks early so probably not if I went full-term) but it was the choice I made and I am happy about it. Good luck!

And I agree with everyone else who has posted -- it is your decision and you did not make it lightly but with a great deal of thought. Relax and know you made the best decision for you.

I am sure you made this decision by giving it a great deal of thought. Don't feel bad because of the C/S... just feel happy that your going to have a new baby. t
That's all that really matters in the end.

Hi Solson, Good Luck with your Delivery on Monday! I too had a c/s for my second delivery, although it was not on the scheduled list. I wanted to go into labour and go through until it was time to push . I too was not thrilled about a C/S but in the end I wanted a healthy baby and that is what I got.

All the best to, I will say a prayer and I can't wait to hear about the baby .

I think you are very courageous for chosing as you have. As a matter of fact, my close friend is an OB/GYN, and recently shared with me a new study that came out in one of her magazines. It stated that C/S vs. vaginal delivery and recovery have been found to correlate evenly for the mother. The big finding was that C/S was found to be significantly more beneficial to the baby. As a matter of fact, in Brazil, there is a 95% C/S rate among women who visit a doctor and deliver because of this. Just thought you should know this information. The medical community is starting to see and acknowledge the benefits of C/S, and not just viewing it as a last results. Incidentally, my friend CHOSE to have her first child C/S voluntarily and will be having her second the same way soon.
I did C/S after my first child was born BPI, and it was the best decision I could every have made. I do not understand the idea that if you do not have a vaginal delivery you are missing something or are less that what you should be as a mother. My first concern is my child and its safety, and if that means surgery to ensure that, I will do that.

My first child was a vaginal delivery with an epi, pitocin and vaccuum extractor because of high B/P (preg induced) and she was big. She has a LOBPI.

My second DD was a c-section based on the complications with the first (different doctors in different states) and I am VERY glad. DD #2 was bigger than the first, I had and still have, diabetes, and she is perfect! If I had to do it again (which I won't) I would definately go c-section. I was worried, but all went well! Good-luck. Every woman is different and every delivery/pregnancy is different, even for the same woman!!
