dealing as a 21 year old guitar player????
Hi! I am looking for 21 year olds, or that age group, who are dealing with their injury. My son is having difficulty and I think he needs to know others who may be also. Would love to hear from you!

I am 32yr old with robpi and having a tough time myself. You didn't mention what kind of difficulties your son is having?? pain issues? social/economic? not understanding or despising his injury? or all 3 plus? I am relatively new to this site, and before I found it I had no clue there were so many people with bpi and that the unusual "symptoms" I was trying to explain to people was actually in black in white right in front of me. There is definitly support for your son here. I'm a LITTLE older than his age group but would gladly try to help him. There is no reason he has to go through this ALONE. If I can be any help, please let me know. It takes ALL OF US to try to understand the long term effects of this injury. Even if it doesn't help us it could possibly help a child/parent gain knowledge and lessen what we have and still are going through. We must document any and all info. to create awareness of the long term effects of this injury. Please reassure him that there are people dealing with this injury everyday?? You all are in my prayers!!!
God Bless

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Kathy, I am a 25 yr old with a traumatic brachail plexus injury. I got mine 4 days after my 21st birthday so I can understand where he is coming form too. By all means email me if you want to or ask quesitons here. I have slowly but surly gotten on with things, regardless of the injury. Good luck!!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Re: dealing as a 21 year old guitar player????
Hi, I'm 21 going on 22. I've dealt with this problem all of my life. Although I am blessed that my injury is not too severe it has changed the way my life has and always will be dealt with. Weather it's playing guitar or simply receiving change from a drive through I seem to have trouble daily. I just found this site and if your son wants to email me and talk about it I'm open to talk.

Re: dealing as a 21 year old guitar player????
I have always wanted to play the guitar, before my mod quad my arm was shrinking and I couldn't reach the neck of the guitar. I have regained two inches in length from surgery, some do, some don't. I am planning on taking beginning guitar hopefully next year when I am through with all my other college classes. It will be my reward for finishing school. I was also a trumpet player, a crooked one, but I still played. Just keep on following your dreams and you can achieve them! I am 33 with LOBPI.

I'm a 19 y/o female with an OBPI. Of course we all know that no matter how severe BPI effect our everyday lives. I recently found this site and I think it is very important for all of us to talk and support each other. Kathy, you or your son can e-mail me anytime. .
