Has anyone gone to Shriners Hospital, Chicago for OBPI, and if so how did it go?

We were checking out the prospects of coing to the shriners in chicago when my husband got out of the NAVY....but ended up with insurance that would cover my son's injury. Thet seemed to know what they were talking about.....but we never experienced them first hand

I keep reading how Shriners is good in PA, but never read anything about Shriners in Chicago....Does Chicago Shriners, not do much with BPI?

from what I understand they have a BPI program over there at the chicago one, not sure though that is what I heard

I was noticing in the Medical Reference section that ONLY 16 States have Doctor &/or Therapy references.

I also noted that Illinois was not one of them.

During the 1980's & 1990's I did end up in Chicago.....thinking one of the biggest cities, would have MORE experience with this injury. But, it did seem such a struggle then.

Can't help but notice I NEVER read about anyone going to, or being successfully treated by, an ILLINOIS doctor for BPI. Are there really NONE in Illinois that know how to treat this injury well......even now?

I live in chicago and we have never been to shriners but we did go to childrens hosp. After doing much research we ended up going to a few specialist and decided to have surgery with Dr. Nath in Texas. There are not many BPI specialist in the city they were hard to find. This was several years ago (4) so maybe it has gotten better recently. Good luck.

Dr. Grant is no longer there, however Dr. King does
do a BPI clinic. We have not used him for surgery, but have seen him several times at clinic.

The UBPN website will only post listings of doctors who fill out there questionnaire. I DO understand the rationale, however limiting the list DOES NOT help parents of newborns with BPI that need an evaluation.
In fact, the limited list makes things even MORE DEPRESSING AND SCARY for new parents.

When my child was injured, I did not know where to go.


Chicago:
We have used Children's Memorial Hospital for Occupational Therapy for 6 years.
For an evaluation Dr. Erik King Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon has BPI clinics.
South Suburbs: Hope Children's Hospital Occupational Physical Therapy group familiar with BPI
Northwest Indiana: St. Margaret's Pediatric Physical Therapy in Schererville familiar with BPI.

As always, every patient has a different view of a doctor or group. However, it's nice to at least have
a begining point.

I think anyone who lives in or close to a big city
already has an advantage in healthcare choices.

By the way, I think people are afraid to mention doctors etc because they are afraid that other people will get mad at the recommendation.

Again, every person's experience with a doctor is individual and it is better to get some advice then no advice. If you don't like a doctor or group, then move on to someone else. I had inteviewed 3 obstetrical groups before I found the 4th that I went to for the birth of my 2nd child.
