TES while wearing splint

Dr. Nath and the O.T. said after a couple of weeks we could start the TES again on Michaelas' arm. We usually put 2 electrodes on her upper arm and 2 on her lower arm. They just said to look for pressure points. Has anyone else ever done this? Anxious to find out. TES has been such a routine for her since she was 2 and I'm afraid if we go to long without it , it will be hard to restart.Plus I worry about atrophy in her arm from nonuse since she had built up quite a bit of bulk. If anyone has done TES with an SOL splint on let me know how it worked for you. Thanks, LeeAnne

Hi, LeeAnne. I don't have answers for you, but find this interesting. Nicole had the Caps and is in the 2nd 8 weeks with the splint. Dr. Nath told us to wait until after the entire 16 weeks before resuming TES. I couldn't imagine doing it with the splint on. To me, either or (splint or TES) is enough to deal with at once (from my standpoint and Nicole's) -- JMO.

I actually wanted to resume TES while Maia was in the splint because her incisions were beginning to get infected again and I thought that the TES would bring extra blood flow to the area so it would heal better... but I never got an answer from the TES people about it. Dr. Nath also said no to it.

So the question is, will the electrical vibration harm what is needed for the healing process or help it? All depends on what has to heal and how it has to heal I guess.

I will ask the instructor about this at the TES class.

Good questions! Michaela wears her electrodes on her arm, 2 upper and 2 lower, none on her shoulder now, so I'm wondering if this is why he okayed it. I guess I'll e-mail Lisa, too. Leslie McKibben usually does her TES evals every 3 months so I guess I'll give her a ring and see what she thinks. Seems like alot to deal with but if it stops some of the lower arm atrophy while splinted might be worth it. Who knows, I guess we'll find out something new.
