Does anyone with bpi play tennis?

Post by diargasm »

I took a look around my garage today and found my old rackets. I have not been on a tennis court for two years since my accident. Holding the racket in my hand brought back some bitter old memories of when I was a freshman in the high school tennis team; and now it just makes me wistful knowing that I won't be able to play competetively anymore.

Anyhow,I still would like to know how others get around to playing it, if they do. I can grip the racket with my bpi hand, so that would in turn probably imply that I would have to go about playing left-handed. Is there anyway to serve without making my self look sappy?

Hi,

I don't play tennis but do play squash. I learned it after the injury with my good hand. I've been playing 15 years and still pay 2-3/week. I love it and credit it for keeping my good arm strong and working. I also weight train and swim to keep the good arm going.

Have fun!!

Andre, I played tennis in high shcool too but now I just play for fun with my f riends here and there, its great exersise!! I hole the racket in my bpi hand (down at my side not biceps) and set the ball on it. Then I take the racket with my left arm, therow the ball up from the racket and serve it. It doesnt always work but my friends get a great laugh out of it! Give it a try....... if this doesnt make sense ask me more quesitons.....

How do you folks stabilize the BPI arm & shoulder comfortably from flailing around painfully due to lack of any supportive muscles in those areas?

I am an above elbow amputee, and have kept up the shoulder muscles as much as possible with regular exercise. There is no flailing nor any discomfort. The odd time it accelerates the pain levels but the game is so intense that I immediately play past it. Even before the meth, it was the only time of the day when I did not notice the pain. Squash, tennis, racquetball, etc take a lot of concentration and can really make a difference in pain levels.

I usually wear a sling when I play tennis. It does help to keep it from flopping aorund a ton though it does still flop a bit. hope this helps!
