Hey guys! As you may have seen Nancy has gotten the online registry up and running, YEAH, but I dont like the wording of OB/NON OB I like OB or traumatic..... my quesiton here is how do you refer to yourself in this manner? Maybe I am jsut weird but I look at non ob as saying Im Cara's sister not that I am Courtney. Anymore input would be great! Thanks!!

I do prefer differentiating the two by OBPI or TBPI rather than NON OBPI - that just sounds...NON. I've also noticed that some places refer to this injury as OBPI or Adult BPI which I don't care for either. My son is 7 but TBPI. He's not adult or obstetric, but we identify with/as TBPI. Still new to this, but my two cents.

Court, I was just thinking the same thing when I registered there yesterday. They did a great job at setting this up. Thanks! Personally, I prefer "traumatic" over "non ob" also.
Lourdes, Yes, I guess our TBPI children are very few here on the boards. Its been hard catagorizing all the people. They neither fit in OBPI children or adults, and dont fit in TBPI adults. But, Im not complaining at all, just thankful for UBPN all together. Its just very sad to me to see more and more new people injured, however their injured.

Yep...10 out 10 for setting this up. Must admit that I was a bit put off by the 'non' OBPI bit...in fact, In truth, I was very put out at first and was going to post, so thanks for getting there first Court!! :0)
Hopefully, this will be changed as soon as, otherwise I think it will put off many people from registering. Registering as a 'non OBPI' seems to me to be negating the injury, making it somehow less important unless it was caused at birth, or maybe I'm just being a bit too touchy today... :0(
No-one likes to be referred to as a 'non' anything. Most of us on 'this side' of the boards have a traumatic brachial plexus injury and personally, I have no problem naming my injury as a TBPI, and I wouldn't mind betting that no-one else here has a problem with that either.
(Sorry, baaaaad day! :0( )

Well maybe we are just irascible old hags Lizzy, because when I saw non ob I just thought.....not gonna start a punchup, but I'm not adding myself on here! I felt like an afterthought. I wondered if I was being over sensitive, so I'm glad there's a consensus on this! Obviously no offence was intended but wow it's amazing how being referred to like that gets your hackles up...:0)
Thanks for raising it Court!

No girls you are not cranky...
I think when UBPN was first formed there were not many TBPI's nor OBPI/adults... so the NON word...
I agree I would not want to be a NON anything... LOL... I was a NON injured person for 60 years... Now everyone knows when I say OBPI how I was injured.
I feel no matter what age you are or how you get the injury loosing a limb is traumatic and for you guys who remember loosing the use of your arms (even the little tbpi's) is very traumatic.
But Courtney knows this and of course UBPN does not want to disregard TBPI either.
As with all new things we are working out the kinks.

We will change the designation of non obstetric to traumatic, hopefully this weekend. Steve Ferguson is working on recoding the program.
Thanks for all your input.

Nancy,
Maybe something else worth mentioning for the individual entries anyway; would it be possible to have a even wider choice of categories to choose from when registering?
It could be split into more choices such as 'OBPI' 'TBPI' and possibly 'parent(s) of injured' also. Otherwise, it looks like your registration process is not allowing for parents to register either.
There could also be another category added to maybe differentiate between parents of OBPI and those of TBPI since there are quite a few parents of both types of injury posting here now.
We have a registration set-up similar to this on the TBPI Group website and it has worked very well for us, although it isn't strictly the same...our one is not open to view to all, just there for registering an interest in getting newsletters from us.
