I posted this question about 2 weeks ago, and got no responses. I am hoping to talk with talk with someone before we head to Houston next month. Rain is having tendon transfers done for her wrist so that she possibly will be able of extend it. I was wondering if anyone else has had this surgery, and what was their outcome. If so how long was your child in the post op splint? Dr. Nath said that Rain was going to wear the splint for 4 months, which I hate for her considering how hot our Texas summers get. She will also be wearing it still when she starts Kindergarten in the Fall. Oh well, any input you can offer is greatly appreciated. We are scheduled for the surgery on June 2nd. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tendon Transfer Surgery
DeShawn, since no one is answering here, ask Dr. Nath if he can connect with you with another family or two whose child had this done. Best of luck for Rain.

Louise,
Thanks for responding. I appreciate your taking the time to. The surgeries are different, but thank you all the same.
Guest,
Great suggestion. I'll give doctor Nath a call in the morning. No better place to start than there. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Tendon Transfer Surgery
Hi DeShawn,
I had a wrist tendon transfer in Lubbock in 1980. I know what you mean about the summer! I had a plaster elbow cast (two actually) that got really yucky. The third cast was water safe, and while testing that I got black sand inside. Don't get sand inside!
I think the result was good (the operation, not the lake swim): my wrist has been straight ever since and I can do most of the finger exercises. Though not everything it is very positive.

DeShawn-
I've had 4 tendon tranfers in my right wrist & hand. This was many years ago (I am 50; I had one surgery when I was 12, & 3 surgeries when I was 23). They do things so differently now, but I feel that my surgeries were successful. The first one was to fix what they called a "drop-wrist". The tendon on the top of my wrist was much weaker than the one on the inside, so they transfered a tendon from the inside to the top of my wrist. The second surgery was to repair the same tendon 11 years later. The third & fourth surgeries were to fix my thumb tendon which unfortunately snapped during the second surgery. I don't believe that the local surgeon really understood OPBI, because the last surgery was performed @ Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where they successfully removed a tendon from my foot to fix my thumb.
As I said, the Medical Community knows so much more now about OBPI than it did when I had my surgeries. In spite of the problems, I still consider my procedures successful.
I'm sure everything will work out for you and your family. My thoughts & prayers are with you!
