Wow what a turn of events in the past 12 hours. I recieved a call from Dr biggs {neurosurgeon} yesterday with good news[and bad] that i need to be in Sydney in a week for another operation.Aparently there is new information to him from either England or America in regards to my arm. I only had surgery as some of you know only 9 weeks ago.The final outcome for my elbow flex and movement will be better if they reroot the nerve to 2 branches instead of 1,so in we go again. Aarently this is a new process in brachial plexus and the info only came to the Dr recently.Has anyone had a call out of the blue needing surgery in the near future.

Hiya Dean...don't know if what you are having surgery-wise is actually a new procedure...seems like I have heard of similar here in the U.K. Then again, it's hard to tell from your description what exactly he's going to do.

Whatever it is tho, good luck with it mate...it sounds like you have a bl**dy good surgeon who is constantly on your case, and that can't be bad. Let us know how you get on...hopefully you'll get a bit of time to enjoy Sydney while you're there...possibly my most favourite city in the world!

Hey Lizzyb, when i had my first operation 9 weeks ago the Dr did 2 grafts,a 5cm and a 15cm. The other nerve that was damaged he split a good nerve and rooted to the damaged 1{to only one branch.] Aparentley though they only just found out that with this relatively new{i think] procedure my elbow movement will not work unless they do another small operation to slice the nerve again and put it two a second branch. I will find out more info next week.
Lizzy i hope you enjoyed youself in Sydney but im not a fan of the place its to much of a rat race. Take care ok.

Hi Dean
I had this procedure done bout 8 months ago but unfortuneatly it failed (which is rare) but my specialist has offered me a muscle transfer from one oart of my body to my arm which will have the same results with immediate effect unlike nerve graphs where you have to wait for the nerve to grow and it could take a while.
My consultant is one of the best in the world I have been informed he travels the worlde teaching. here is his details.
Professor R Birch. Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital
45-51 Bolsover Street London W1W 5AQ ENGLAND the hospital web address is www.rnoh.nhs.uk they might have his personal e-mail address. perhaps your specialist could have a chat or get advice from him.
Ive just had muscle and tenden transfer for my hand in plaster cast for 2 weeks but instant movement.

Good luck
