Well, we took a trip to our local hospitals therapy dept. today and Alyssa was made an elbow extension splint. She has practiced all day with putting it on & off all by herself! She will wear it at night now and will have the bicep lengthening done June 24th at TCH.
BTW, Francine...The lady who made Alyssa's splint was wonderful and I talked to her about making a bath splint for Alyssa after her next surgery and she said she would be more than happy to, just make sure I get a prescription from Dr. Nath! She talked to me about the SOL splint and said the material that she used for the splint today can get wet. She used same kind of straps that are on the sol splint and some velcro, but the straps are permanently attatched on one part. The lady & one of the other OT's were crazy about Alyssa and her outgoing personality today. She was extra happy since it was Valentines Day and she got lots of goodies at school.
Alyssa Got a Splint
Re: Alyssa Got a Splint
Jeanne - can you ask your therapist to let me know how they make the bathing splints so that the straps stay on in the water? I had no luck with velcro and many different types of glues/adhesives - they used Aquaplast as the splint material.... I would appreciate the info so that we know for next time and so I can our therapist if she's ever going to make one for another child! Thanks!!
Good luck with the elbow splint!! Hope she sleeps well with it.
