My son Emmett is 11 months old and is robpi he has chewed his thumb at the joint where the thumb meets the hand to the point of bleeding and I cant get him to stop. I have been putting Neosporin on it when he is sleeping to try to get to heal, and i put a sock that I cut finger holes in to try to get him to stop but he still chews on the same spot. He does wear a brace but I dont know the name of it and he only wears it when we are out mainly just in the car. does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to help him quit chewing on it.

I can't help you to stop him but I can tell you I did the same thing chewing on my arm... I outgrew it but I am sure my mother did everything to get me to stop chewing my finger... I use to make them bleed... ugh...

here is a paper on bpi children and this problem.

I hope you find something

Try clove oil. Tyler used to have the same problem. He used to chew his fingers on his BPI hand until they were infected and nothing but nubs. I would put the clove oil on his fingers in the morning and before he went to bed at night. It has a nasty taste and smell to it so they won't want to suck or bite any longer. The oil also helps heal the infection or wound. You can usually find clove oil at a specialty cooking store. Good Luck!
