fao Jacko or any other scuba divers

Post by buddyfan »

I may have asked you this before but I did a search for scuba, diving etc & nothing came up.
I have started taking Amitriptyline (20mg) for the tbpi pain which has increased substantially in the last 3years. Do you take any medication (especially Amitriptyline) when diving? Do you have any advice? I've got a scuba holiday next week so I've stopped taking it, just in case. Although the pain is horrendous at the moment I'm hoping the actual diving will take my mind off it. DAN (Diver Aware Network) talk about the drug but at doses much higher, taken for depression. They obviously have reservations about diving with the drug but partly because of the depression symptoms as well as the drug side affects.

Another diving related question. (I'm a beginner, qualified PADI Open Water Diver last year).
I have a left bpi(1979). I tend to use the dump valve to descend. When ascending I use my right arm to use the BCD deflator. Do you use a dive computer & if so how do you read it on the ascent. I'm looking at a Suunto Mosquito or Vyper (both wrist worn). I can't remember what I used last year but it was a wrist computer, I wore it on my right arm but I think I managed to position it sort of on the edge of my wrist rather than over or under, so that I could see it on the way up whilst holding the deflator up with the same arm. I would like to think the mosquito will work because I like the smaller size (I'm female) but I'm not sure I'll be able to see it properly. Any advice on that topic or anything else scuba related gratefully received.
