My daughter, Caroline- 9 1/2, wrote this poem for school (and was chosen to read it at the poetry reading in May for the whole school district). She wanted to post it for everyone, because she thought more kids might feel the same. She has had 6 surgeries with a right BPI.
Why isn't my arm Straight?
Why isn't my arm straight?
Why couldn't it be like most peoples arms
Why couldn't it have been different
Maybe I could have been a boy
Maybe I wouldn't have been born
Maybe I could have had a straight arm
Why did I have to be me
IT' HARD
Why couldn't it be someone else
I know why my arm isn't straight
Beacuse God wanted me to be special

Louise,
THank you for your email! Caroline was so excited someone read it and responded. Your right - they grow up fast - and are amazing children the way they handle everything! Good luck to your daughter.

Caroline,
Your poem is wonderful. You have a very special talent.
My son Garrett is almost two years old and has an BPI injury too. Of course he can not tell me how he feels about it yet, as he is just beginning to talk. Thank you for sharing this - now I have an understanding how he feels too.
Keep up with the writing - I look forward to reading more of your poems.

Hi Caroline,
Beautiful poem. When I was reading it, I could feel your heart in my heart. I wanted to hug you. You are a very special girl. Special, because you are able to write in a way that touches people's hearts.
I'm looking forward to your next one.
I'm looking forward to reading about some positive feelings you have about being you.
Take your time, We'll be around!
Love,
Susan(Mom) & Veronica(LOBPP)
