Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Hi! I am Laura, the mom of Tyler, who has a ROBPI. I've been a member of this site since 1998 and owe a great deal to the wonderful people in the UBPN community who have helped us along the way get what we needed to get done for Tyler. Tyler is now 14 years old and in the 9th grade. He's a super bright kid and loves his video games. Tyler had the mod quad surgery with Dr. Shenaq shortly before he passed. That was his first and only surgery. Now that he is older he is requesting additional surgery. He'd like to be able to supinate. Our goal is for Summer 2013.

Oh my Gosh!! I never thought of that! Awwww!! I feel bad for the both of you. Tyler is 6 years old too, so I can only imagine having to carry him around and he's only 38 lbs. I hope he gets better soon!

You know what really stinks... When my BPI kid was 18 months old, as a single parent, I broke my leg. I was on crutches for three months, unable to drive for four months. On crutches I managed to find a sling for my daughter across my back or sometimes a harness for her, and we walked to the grocery store, we made medical appointments. When we were in the house, I affixed a short stool to my hip so that I could prepare meals, wash the dishes, do the laundry. Otherwise I was crawling and carrying my kid on my back..... I lost thrity pounds in the process.

My kid is now at fifty pounds, I would the same. You have a six year year old. Injured, your kid needn't be in school. (If you are working you should have a family-disability option available to you for time off.) You should be able to maintain an education for your child. You owe it to your kid to have more physical and educational ability. Get in shape! This has nothing to do with BPI, it has to do with your willingness to be a prepared and PHYSICAL parent. ALL parents face hardship when a child is injured. Don't use the BPI card bacause you are not willing to adapt..

Poor Peyton!
That is so tough.
I had knee surgery last summer and did an awful lot of hopping around on one foot. But it was only for a short time.

Luckily kids heal pretty quickly and I hope she doesn't have to deal with this for very long.

My heart goes out to Peyton; maybe she'll get a kick (no pun intended) out of the extra attention and getting to ride in a wheelchair???

I'm really sorry she broke her heel. How long does that take to heal?

Good luck to you all and tell her to make the best of it; get some cool things to spiff up the cast and wheelchair. Do you think she'll mind it?

All the best!

Jennifer,
I feel so bad for your little Peyton. I had knee surgery and was told to use two crutches. I was unable to use two crutches and I told the dr that but he told me to use them any way, so I just used one, and took both with me to my appointments. I hope Peyton heals quickly for her sanity and yours.
Hugs to both of you,
Amy
