splint off two days early

Matthew got some kind of viral infection so we had to remove the splint 2 days early. He got hives all over his body and was veary uncomfortable with the splint on . We did of course called TCH and they said it he would be okay not wearing it. But as soon as the hives went away to try and put it back on at night. Well it has been 4 days that he got this wierd infection and he still has it. We are hopping that he does'nt give us a hard time puttintg it back on. Does anyone know why they have to wear it at night only when it comes off after the 4weeks of wearing it?
The fist day we removed the splint he was in so much pain we had to give him tyl. w/codine. That night he slept through the night for the first time in weeks.Only I could'nt because I have been so used to waking-up every 15-30 min.
We have seen so much improvement with him he is reching for things and trying to hold his bottle. We are so proud of our little man. He has been through so much.
Has anyone had trouble getting their child to bathe once the splint is off? Matthew used to like the water but now he hates it.
