Pain

Post by admin »

I'm 16 years old and just had a doc appointment for pain in my Brachial Plexus arm. The pain is in my shoulder and elbow and is constant. It has been like this for as long as I can remember. The Doc. has suggested an MRI to see if scar tissue is causing the pain. Don't know what they will do if it is....but would love to be pain free. Anyone out there have these symptoms and if so what do you know about it. Thanks for the site.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Welcome to the message boards.
I am glad to see the doctor is sending you for a Brachial Plexus MRI. It is an important tool in helping a doctor decide what course of action to take. I assume your doctor is a Brachial Plexus Specialist.
Have your parents read any of the information on this website? We have a medical Resource Directory to help find BPI specialists in your area if you do not have one.

I am much older but awhile back many of us answered questions on pain. I moved the post to the top for you to read. When I was young doctors believed that there was no pain with this injury but now they know better.
Right now it is very cold here in NY so my arm hurts like crazy because when my arm is cold ( which is all the time) it feels very, very painful.

Russel,
I also have the shoulder pain. I dont have the pain in my elbow though. My shoulder pain is not constant, however it is often. Let us know what you find out with your mri. For the pain I usually take ibuprophen or put a warm pack on it. That usually helps, or I lay flat on my back for a while and that helps too. Hope that your pain is relieved in the near future.

Amy

By the way I am 17
