I have shoulder shrug but no movement in my shoulder, deltoid, trapezius. Anyone out there have the same and received a special muscle or nerve transfer? If so, what was it? Who did it? Did you have any avulsions? thanks

Hi Chris,
You probably already observed this on the video. John had all five avulsed but he did have the ability to slightly shrug his shoulder. I know Mayo has bicep, tricep & deltoid "plugged in" with nerve transfers. Not sure about trapezius.

Chris,
The upper trapezius shrugs the shoulder.
It's innervated by the spinal accessory nerve, which is not part of the brachial plexus. Some doctors take part of the spinal accessory nerve and graph it to the suprascapular nerve to innervate the infraspinatus and the supraspinatus. If all goes well, you get some shoulder function back. Hope this helps...Karl...
p.s. sorry about all the big words, punchysue taught them to me. Now if she could only teach me to spell...
