It is now official, John Hopkins has put together the first ever meeting of obstetricians, nerve experts and even lawyers to discuss birth plexus injury. The meeting is going to happen in May and is open to the medical/healthcare community. My source tells me that virtually all of the experts from USA and Canada will be there.
I for one am fed up with the nonsense that has been continuously put forward on lay sites devoted to plexus. Claims by a certain doc that he has invented new types of surgery for plexus injury are completely unsupported by the medical literature, yet he keeps advertising this and we keep getting sucked in by professional marketing rather than advances in medical science. To be able to hear what the experts say when in front of their peers rather than on their web site or in a court room will flesh out the truth and I would like to be there to hear it.
The people who are affected by brachial plexus injury, either as patients or family members, should be allowed and even encouraged to attend this historic meeting. I would hope that the leaders of the various plexus organizations do what they can to influence the meeting organizers on our behalf. If we cannot attend the meeting, I would hope that Outreach can send a reporter to provide a summary.
