More news on the pain medication front. Apparently, the FDA has approved a new drug for chronic pain, and it should be on the market by the end of January. Unfortunately, it is for infusion pump use only, however, it is a calcium channel blocker and is to be used for people with severe chronic pain, infusion pumps, and an over tolerance to morphine -- including amputees. This drug is made from a synthetic version of paralytic marine snail venom by a company in Ireland called Elan. The drug's name is Prialt. Though this may not work for most of us, it shows that there are highly advanced companies working on the problem of chronic pain.
Hold on, there may be hope after all. One paw

Check out this website, it contains too much information about Prialt. Hope it works for some.
Carrie's pain dr said Ziconotide was very unstable and very difficult to get the correct dose so he wouldn't prescribe it.

I have contacted tthe head of Neurology at a respected university out east about using Prialt and/or a deep sleep procedure for treatment of Brachial Plexus pain. He wrote back and said that he has had sucess with both, and treats avulsin pain as an aspect of RSD. He has worked on this for tthirty years. I emailed him my particulars this week and hope to fly out and meet with him soon. I'll let you know.

Has anyone gone down the Prialt road for pain?
Or learned anything new about it?

Hey Onepaw,
What ever happened with that neurology guy contacting you back or you going to see him in Jan this year? It still sounds promising. He had to learn some good stuff in thirty years experience, you'd think...

I had to go through the "gate keeper" or appointment seceratary and the guy is booked out past 2 years just for an initial appointment, so it looks like that is off the table for a while. His name is Dr. Schwartz and he was in that article I posted from Good Morning America. If you need some more info, I will get it.
