I've only just begun exploring this site. My daughter is two months old with BPI. we live in Charlotte, NC and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any support groups or events that may be close.

Hi Christina, Im Priscilla. I have a 12 year old, RTBPI. We live in NC also. Dr. Shenaq from Texas Childrens Hospital goes to Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation about every 4 months to do evaluations with Dr. Maureen Nelson there. Shes the Phys. Med. and Rehab. Dr. there at CIR. Dr. Shenaq was supposed to come again in November, but it got cancelled due to Dr. Laurents death. They are supposed to re-schedule for sometime in January, but as of now, no plans have been made yet. You can contact Tanya, shes Dr. Nelsons nurse, and see if anything has been scheduled or what the plans are. (704)355-4457 That is the only thing I know that is going on in NC. A few of us live in NC and we stay in touch by e mail and phone calls.

Hi Christina: I live in Charlotte NC as well. I have been interested in starting a local support group for the BP kids & parents. I have a daughter who just turned 1 who has a BPI to her right arm. She has been to Houston one time so far for the nerve surgery (at 4m old) and we are waiting to see Dr. Shenaq for follow-up. I believe he is coming to CIR in April now. Please call Maureen Nelson at CIR and have your daughter evaluated. It is VERY critical that she gets the medical attention she needs VERY early in her life. Dr. Nelson is a fabulous, caring and warm doctor and I trust her 100%, clinically, professionally and personally. Please respond to my post if you would like to chat and I'll email you my phone number. I know how difficult the first few months were for me and I'd love to help others in any way if I can. God Bless.
