Important Information about TCH

I was contacted by a senior executive of Texas Children's Hospital (TCH), who wanted to disseminate some important information regarding the Brachial Plexus Clinic at TCH to our bpi community. The following is official information from the Hospital:
The Brachial Plexus Clinic of Texas Children’s Hospital was founded in 1987 and is dedicated to providing treatment and care for brachial plexus injuries. The core philosophy of our clinic has been to use a multidisciplinary approach to correcting the injury while providing for the child’s overall care. 2004 has been a difficult year for our clinic in that two of the founders of the Clinic, both extremely talented physicians, passed away this fall. The deaths of Dr. Rita Lee, the Neurology Director of the Clinic, and Dr. John Laurent, our neurosurgeon, have affected our ability to provide a multidisciplinary approach to evaluating and treating Clinic patients. Therefore, we have decided to place Clinic operations on hold until TCH can ensure the availability of a team of pediatric subspecialists to provide a multidisciplinary review for brachial plexus patients.
New patients will not be accepted for appointments to TCH Brachial Plexus Clinic. If you are a new patient and would like to see:
• Dr. Saleh Shenaq, Plastic and Reconstructive Microsurgeon, please call (713)-798-8215.
• a pediatric neurologist in their clinic, please contact Central Scheduling by calling (832)-822-2778.
• a pediatric rehabilitation specialist in their clinic, please call (832)-826-6106.
All patients with existing appointments to the clinic will be contacted in the next 30-60 days to discuss a reappointment to appropriate clinics based on a review of your current treatment plan.
All patients that have previously been seen in the Brachial Plexus Clinic and need to schedule an appointment, please call (832)-822-3295.
