The doctor has ordered Aquatherapy for DeeDee. But now we have a problem....I called all over and there is no one around us that offers it. So can anyone offer any suggestions of what we can do. She will be going to PT. We live in the north-east part of PA. close to NY/NJ and PA state lines

Try this link:

If you can't find anybody from that list, then email Andrea Poteat Salzman directly - maybe she knows of something personally that's not yet on the list.

Also, since therapy pools are hard to come by (because of the temperature needs), look into pediatric hospitals, rehab hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Many of the PT groups here rent time in retirement home / nursing home pools, etc. Good luck.

Another lead is to see if there's a Variety Club or Easter Seals facility near you. Sometimes they have pools with therapists.

ON Long Island we have a swim place called safety swim, they offer classes but they do aquatherapy there as well.
we also have a YMCA in our area who offers swimming but will concentrate on aqua theray. you may want to look into that as well
I dont know if you have anything like that in your area.

Kim,
There is a pediatric therapist at West End Physical Therapy in Kresgeville which is in NE PA. Sheri is her name and they do aqua therapy there.

First, I would like to thank the "guest" for taking the time to type up all of the names, addresses, etc. That was truly generous of you. Secondly, kimhue, you may want to try your local YMCA. I know the ones here in Baton Rouge, La. have heated pools.

Is there a difference as far as the pool is concerned? I realize cost can be an issue as far as insurance coverage, travel to and from therapy vs. up front cost for your own heated pool and maintenance, but as far as the pool, is there a difference between the two?

Call your local 0-3 or First Steps coordinator. They work with PTs all over the place and may have info for you .
