Questions about MRI and other

How much damage can be seen on an MRI? My father had an accident (fall) about 10 days ago, which resulted in complete paralysis of his right arm. He has gained back considerable movement in his hand, and can feel flexing in his tricep, but no other improvement. He has had 3 MRIs and CT Scan, both of which showed no damage.
Like many of you, he is in extreme pain. We are not able to get into a neurologist for an EMG until next week. I have been researching the various degress of injury that can result from TBPI, but mostly just have more questions. Basically, is the only we can do sit and wait until a more detailed specialist can do more testing? I have emailed Dr. Nath in Houston, who promptly responded. But should we wait for a preliminary diagnosis before rushing off to a specialist? Basically all we have now is the sympton (paralysis) and MRI testing that shows nothing. Any advice?
